About Wigwam

Founded in 1905

In 1905, Herbert Chesebro, Lawrence A. Bentz and Robert H. Ehaney took responsibility for a company that, years later, would become the leader in outdoor, athletic and active sock production.

For over 100 years, Wigwam has been dedicated to enhancing the lives of their customers. They have done this not just through providing them the finest quality socks, but by providing them with the assurance that their purchase of Wigwam socks supports its reputation of honesty and integrity.

Since its creation Wigwam support wool producers by sourcing their wool almost exclusively from American yarn spinners who buy from American wool growers to get the best quality natural and manmade fibers and yarn for all of their products.

During the 30’s Wigwam also manufactured for many other firms. One clever result was a pair of red and green socks knitted for the elite outdoor goods retailer Abercrombie and Fitch, to aid boaters in differentiating between port and starboard.

In 1945 the War Production Order had been enacted. Which meant Wigwam's machines were to be used only to produce wool or partly wool socks for the Army and Navy.
