Fox Umbrellas was founded in 1868 when Thomas Fox opened a workshop and a store in the heart of the old City of London, today known as the London Wall.
In the last 150 years Fox Umbrellas has been sold twice, first to the Dixon family in 1880 and then in 2000 to Ray Garret, who had been working for the company for 20 years. Despite these changes, the manufacturing process has not only been preserved but has also been perfected.
Two innovations have made the reputation of Fox Umbrellas. First, the use of stainless steel for the mechanisms as from 1880, and in 1947 the replacement of silk by nylon for the coating.
This definitely innovative manufacture seduces many brands. The firm produces in white label for famous clients such as Turnbull & Asser, Harrod’s and Dunhill.
In Croydon, South London, the manufacture uses now waterproof polyester for the coating of the umbrellas, which give them lightness and robustness.
Innovative technique, tradition and attention to details are the common features of more than 120 models, which need 70 to 100 production steps.
