Since 1973, Moonstar has been producing functional and minimalist shoes in Kurume, the tire and traditional footwear capital of Japan. Each pair is hand-cut and hand-sewn by skilled craftsmen using high-quality materials. Once fully assembled, the pairs of shoes are then vulcanized for over an hour in an oven. The vulcanization process, "ka-ryu" in Japanese, permanently bonds the rubber sole and cotton upper by exposing the pairs to high heat.

Moonstar, based in Kurume, Japan, has been producing minimalist and functional footwear since 1973. The city first prospered in the rubber industry, manufacturing tires and "Jika-Tabi" shoes, rubber-soled work boots with a split toe. Moonstar is devoted to crafting comfortable, high-quality shoes, hand-cut and sewn with the finest materials by skilled artisans.
Each pair undergoes the vulcanization or "ka-ryu" process, firing them in an oven for an hour to merge the upper with the sole, earning them the nickname "shoes like pottery".
