Since 1873, Moonstar company has been producing minimal and functional footwear in Kurume, Japan. Kurume first prospered in the rubber industry manufacturing tires and Jika-Tabi shoes, a rubber-soled work boots with a split toe.
During 150 years they have devoted themselves to making comfortable and best quality shoes for everyone. Moonstar shoes are realized by skilled craftsmen with the best materials. Each pair are cut and sew by hand. When they are fully assembled the next stage of the process is called “vulcanisation” or “ka-ryu” in Japanese. At Moonstar they often say “shoes like pottery” because each pair of shoes is fired just like ceramics in a oven during one hour in order to merge the upper with the sole of the shoe.
